Middlesbrough 2000

If you left Middlesbrough in the mid 1980's and came back today, you'd have to ask a local if this really was Middlesbrough or had you got off at the wrong stop and found yourself in a thriving modern town that had suddenly paid for a jazzy new facelift.
It has all off a sudden discovered what potential and image means in this day and age. Middlesbrough is hip, it's got savvy and now Newcastle has got real competition for a young hang-out in the Captain Cook SqNorth-East.
All things that can be changed, have changed in Middlesbrough. The town centre boasts new shopping malls, pedestrian high street, the local football team have moved from city centre to new modern facilities on the river bank and the town's night-life is one of the most sought after in Britain.

Now there is some areas that need work on.
The streets are still a fairly daunting prospect, prostitution is still very much a growth industry and in Middlesbrough business is booming. Certain areas around the town centre are still dangerous to walk around after dark.
Hey! It's a lot better than what it was, say 15 years ago.

Middlesbrough is a fantastic base for exploring this region of England.
This is Captain Cook country and the region is proud to recognise this prominent figure in exploration. In nearby Stockton there is a museum dedicated to Cook, set in one of the country's most picturesque parks. North Yorkshire Moors are minutes away, as is Whitby, York and Durham.

As I mentioned, Middlesbrough FC have moved from Ayresome Park, in the town center, to a new ultra-modern stadium on the banks of the River Tees. Playing in the top division in front of a support more passionate than you're likely to find in the North-East. Middlesbrough FC are big business and their support streches right across Teesside meaning merchandising and ticket sale demands, keep Boro in the big league of English football clubs.Middlesbrough FC

The night life in Middlesbrough has become as varied and multi-cultural as London. Restaurants serve everything from Lebanese to Mongolian. New bars spring up every month and the demand for variety is something locals have come to expect. People in Middlesbrough don't want to be treated as second-class citizens anymore, they expect high quality and Middlesbrough is supplying them with just that.

If you've been to Middlesbrough before and wasn't impressed, then get back you won't believe how much it's changed.
